1933 Maserati 8CM chassis number 3011
"The Whitney Straight Special"
This is but a chapter in the story of one of the most famous racing cars of all time. There are many books about racing and racing cars, but Maserati #3011 is one of a very few cars that have a book devoted exclusively to the exploits of a single car. Maserati #3011 has raced almost continuously since its debut in early 1934 by Whitney Straight. It's history continued with Prince Bira and many other notable drivers. The noted automotive author, Denis Jenkinson, published its story in the book: "Maserati 3011, The Story of a Racing Car," published in 1987 by Aries Press of London. Peter Giddings was the fortunate caretaker of Maserati #3011 from 1988 through 2008. There is much more to be added to this story.
Maserati 3011 is now being raced in England and was featured in Classic & Sports Car in September 2016.
